MARY J. MCCANN HERRON

April 21, 1923 – February 20, 2018

Mary Juanita McCann Herron, 94, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at St. Anthony’s Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center in Henderson, Kentucky.

She was the widow of the late Senator Paul Herron, Jr., who died June 16, 2004. They shared 62 years of marriage together.

Born in Sturgis, Kentucky, on April 21, 1923, Mary was the daughter of Neal and Frances “Fannie” McCann.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Beecher McCann.

She graduated Sturgis High School and later Henderson Beauty and Barber College. She operated her own Beauty Shop (Cinderella) for many years. She was also partner and bookkeeper in the family owned business Herron Auction and Realty.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years and the Democratic Women.

Mary was widely known and respected throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky in political circles having been in the political arena for many years while her husband served two terms as Henderson County Judge Executive and three terms as a Kentucky Senator.

Mary was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Paul Herron, III, and Michael D. Herron and his wife, Pamela, both of Henderson, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Michele Dunn of Kennesaw, Georgia, Marcy Sutton (Chad) of Benton, Kentucky, Mark Herron (Leigh Ann) and Kevin Herron (Whitney), both of Henderson, Kentucky, and Graham Herron (fiancé, Emily) of Greenville, South Carolina; seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Alli, Clay, Megan, Kelsey, Taylor, and Tara; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 25, 2018, at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Reverend Mike Snyder and the Reverend Amy Call of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church will officiate. Entombment will be in Fairmont Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018, and noon until service time Sunday, February 25, 2018, at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund or a favorite charity.

Pallbearers will be Clay Sutton, Taylor Herron, Chad Sutton, Graham Herron, Kevin Herron, and Mark Herron.

Mary’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Colonial Assisted Living, Methodist Hospital, and St. Anthony’s Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center for their gracious service.
